Graphic Terms

Animated gif
An animated Gif ( Graphics Interchange format) is a file which displays graphic images on a web page, which are capable of moving . A good example of this would be an icon or a banner with letters that move, can get larger or even do many other tricks.

animated gif
This is a perfect of an animated gif as it is displays a perfect graphical image which is capable of moving.
Crop
Is to cut something short, so for example to reduce the size of an image by "cropping"( cutting) bits off.
Dpi
The letters dpi stand for dots per inch. These dots per inch decide how much resolution is in an image. The more dots per image the higher resolution it will have.

Jpeg
Is a set of standard and file format which compress the digital colour.

This is a simple and a wonderful example of a jpeg image.

Mirror
The word mirror means to reflect an image as if it would appear in a mirror. So taking an image and reflecting it at an axis.

As we can see the first image says "wild" however when mirrored it appears to us as "bliw" because the image has been mirrored on the right axis. So the image has been flipped from the right side of the original image so that the image now ppears to us as bliw.

Resolution
It is the degree of sharpness of a computer generated image. It is measured with the amounts of dots per inch, the more dots the better the resolution.

As you can see that this image has quite a low resolution, making it appear quite blury. This means that the amounts of dots per inch are quite less.

However this image has a high resolution making it look quite clear. This also means that it would have more dots per inch.

Pixel
Pixels are the smallest elements of an image which can be processed in a video display system.

Fps (frames per second)
The measurement of of the frame rate at which the image is moving.

File extension
A file extension is the suffix at the end of a filename which tells us what type of file it is.

We can establish how to identify what type of file it is from the list where file types is. Some examples are data files, text files etc.

Bmp
This is another graphics format where compression actually enlarges the file.
Frame
The information or image on a screen monitor at any one time.

Compression
All known as data compression. It is the reduction of the storage space required for data by changing its format.

Flip
To flip an image through a point of axis.

Morph
To transform an image by computer.
Frame buffer
Is the pictorial representation and manipulation of data produced by a computer.
Video card
Is an expansion card whose function is to generate output images to display. Many of these cards offer other functions as well, like accelerated rendering of 3D as well as 2D graphics.

This is what a video card looks like .

Cpu
CPU stands for Central Processing unit. It is the portion of a computer which carries the intructions of a computer program. It is also the primary element which carries out the computers functions.

This central unit carries out the instructions in of a program in sequence, to perform basic arithmetical, logical and input/output operations of the system.

Colour depth
The colour depth is the number of bits used to represent the colour of a single pixel in an image or video frame buffer.
